Note from Renee

Good morning!!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend. Thanks to those of you that made it to my home on Friday evening for our Sundae party. It was lovely to be around you and your children in a non-school setting. What a crazy, fun time it was. Hope you've all recovered well.

This week we'll be working more with our explorers. My goal is to have us move into the early colonists by the middle of next week. We'll see how it goes! Spelling packet #8 will be going home today, to be returned by Friday. We'll be talking and working with "voice" in our writing and will be focusing on basic operations and vocabulary in math.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00-9:45 am and 11:00-11:45 am I facilitate math and literacy small groups. These are the times that I could use an extra adult in the classroom to help guide students and keep them on track.

Additionally, I try to grade and return spelling tests on Fridays. If anyone has free time between 11:50 am-1:05 pm, and would be willing to assist me, I would appreciate it. There are several class-related things that I need to attend to in addition to grading at that time.

Thanks for all of your support.

Warmly,
Renee

Weekly homework for 10/19-10/24

Big Word Letters: e i o o c d g m n p s

- Big Word homework is due each Friday. The challenge is to make as many words as possible from the above letters.

Write the letters on cards or use word tiles (Scrabble tiles) and arrange them as words are seen. Focus on building off of word starts and endings, such as "re-" and "in-", "-oat" or "-om". Group words into categories (3-letter, 4-letter, and 5+ letter words or by syllables.) All the letters can be put together to form one "big word."

**REMEMBER: All students should be reading for 20 minutes each evening. Also, spending 10 minutes per day on multiplication facts is important.

Checking in

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for setting aside time to meet this past week to discuss your child's learning plan. I hope that the extra effort, structure, and time will yield positive results. If you haven't completed the learning plans, please do so by Monday and return them to school with your child.

A reminder about Friday's book clubs: If you have questions about what book your child needs to obtain, please let me know. At this point, everyone's in a peer group of their choice and will be gathering each week during Friday Literacy Workshop.

For Math and Literacy Workshop on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, I could use an extra presence in the classroom to help ease transitions and support students while I'm facilitating small groups. Please consider whether this fits into your schedule on a regular, semi-regular, or occasional basis. Families, including young children, are always welcome in my class.

If you have questions, comments, concerns, or kudos, please feel free to email or call me. I value your input and wish for this year to be filled with success, progress, and joy.

Warmly,

Renee

P.S. See you this Friday at 7:00pm for our Sundae party!! (636 NE Ainsworth St. Portland).
